Sammy’s Room – New Play for Young People
We are delighted to unveil plans for our latest play, Sammy’s Room...
This original new production, supported by the Big Lottery Fund, is currently being developed by Red Rose Chain through creative drama workshops with people whose lives have been significantly affected by substance misuse. Focusing on risk-taking behaviour, Sammy’s Room is a hard-hitting and educational production which maturely addresses the issues and decisions faced by young people today.
From January 23rd to February 10th 2012, Sammy’s Room will perform at schools and colleges across Suffolk to engage and educate over 2000 young people about the issues surrounding substance abuse and drug culture and the dangers on physical and mental health.
Red Rose Chain has been specialising in working with people recovering from Class A drug addiction for the past 3 years. Written by award-winning writer and director Joanna Carrick, Sammy’s Room is set to be an absorbing and poignant collaboration between professional actors and recovered addicts.
Joanna Carrick, Artistic Director at Red Rose Chain said: "Sammy’s Room will provide students with an exclusive insight into the lives of those who have been profoundly affected by Class A drugs. Making a change through community engagement is what we do; Sammy’s Room will enable us to confront social concerns and raise awareness amongst young people about drug culture through sharing powerful, real life stories.”
Sammy’s Room is available for performances at schools, colleges and young peoples centres from January 23rd to February 10th 2012 and is suitable for Year 9 and above. The play and discussion workshop can be flexible to suit your students’ timetable and can range from 45 minutes to 1 hour in duration.
This performance is subsidised and we’re delighted to be able to offer Sammy’s Room for just £50 plus VAT per performance. To book Sammy’s Room, or for an informal conversation please feel free to contact Assistant Producer Michael Linge on 01473 603388 or email michael@redrosechain.com.
