Theatre In The Forest designs underway!

A team of volunteers start work on making our Twelfth Night costumes...

More wheels have begun to turn in preparation for Theatre In The Forest, but this time they are spinning wheels! Our costume designer, Gemma Rushbrook, has devised an incredibly exciting array of costumes for this summer's production of Twelfth Night. We decided that this would be a great opportunity to get some of our trusty volunteers involved, so on Saturday 29th January we had a costume day! This was a unique chance to get a sneak preview at the costumes and discover Gemma's inspiration behind her designs.

The day was spent in groups. One group worked with Gemma making hats. Each volunteer was given a character and taken through the stages of how to create a hat. Another group worked with Lucie - who is here with us on a work placement – who taught them how to make toile (which I'm assured is just a fancy word for 'mock up') trousers which will be fitted to the cast later. And the more experienced seamstresses made two waistcoats.

Everyone was treated to Meeny's delicious tuna pasta bake followed by cake (made by Lucie's mother, Mummy McIlroy...) and biscuits. YUM, YUM, YUM!

To tally up, we now have 4 pairs of trousers, 2 waistcoats, 8 hats and half a coat – let's hope it doesn't rain!

The day was a great success and we'd like to give everyone a huge thank you for all your hard work. It was nice to see such a great mix of people willing to give up their time. It was also a bundle of laughs! Click here to see the full photo gallery at our Facebook Page!

If you missed out on this day, DON'T WORRY! We hope to organise another day soon for anyone who is interested. And you don't have to be an expert tailor or seamstress, or have any costume experience at all in fact - we'll teach you everything you need to know!
