I Love KitKats
with the Iceni Project

Over the last few months we've been running script development workshops with the Iceni Project in Ipswich. Staff and participants from this hugely successful and inspiring Drug Rehabilitation Project have been coming along to our theatre productions and even appearing as extras during filming.

'I Love Kitkats' is a play developed through workshops led by Red Rose Chain with participants from the Iceni Project. The story is a hard hitting and realistic look at life for those struggling with drug addiction and explores the way an individual can get drawn into taking the wrong path in life.

Clients from the Iceni project worked very hard and at a professional level to create the play which was performed at Red Rose Chain on 5th and 6th of June. The actors received a standing ovation for their emotional and challenging performance and as a result, Red Rose Chain is planning to create a permanent acting company for people recovering from drug addiction. We'll have more details about this very soon, but in them meantime feel free to get in touch if you're interested in supporting us or getting involved...

Below is a video showing the 'I Love KitKats' project in action.
Of course, this is just a teaser - you'll have to come along next time to see the real thing!

WILDMAN
with the Witchbottle Workshop

In 13th Century Suffolk, fishermen pulled from the sea a creature, resembling a human, but recognising no words and eating only raw fish. He was taken from the nets to Orford Castle where he was imprisoned, interrogated and tortured, before making his escape in the night.

In 21st century Ipswich, Red Rose Chain has been working with a group of committed young people to create a new piece of theatre based on the local myth. This new piece marks the first production of the ‘Witchbottle Workshop’; Red Rose Chain’s new youth company that will be based in The Witchbottle Theatre when it opens in 2010.

Using a creative mix of masks, puppetry, music and movement the young cast tell a story of lost hope and epic love in this atmospheric and innovative short play.

Performances of this piece are now finished. Check out the trailer below to see what it was like!
