Our Advisory Board

Becca Jackaman

As well as being a member of the Avenue Community Theatre (ACT), I work for lots of community groups, like the North West Ipswich Big Local Trust. In Becca’s free time she enjoys watching films, writing, & playing wheelchair football.

“I support Red Rose Chain because they “think outside of the box”, & their shows are consistently unique & very entertaining. They also make Shakespeare accessible even to those who claim they don’t understand what all the fuss is about! I love working with Red Rose Chain, because I always feel welcome & they gave me back my confidence when performing.

Milly Jupp

Milly first worked with Red Rose Chain on the very first of Joanna Carrick’s ‘history plays’, performing in The Ebony Box. Since then, Milly has gone on to create Milly J Shoes, making handmade bespoke shoes, with clients including Kylie Minogue! Milly has won countless awards for her business and has been recognised as one of Norfolk’s 100 most inspiring women.

“I’ve known the Red Rose Theatre Company for several years now and really believe in their strong work with a real emphasis on community, which is something that also inspires me. So I was thrilled to be invited on their board of advisors. I look forward to collaborating with them through their creative process”

Steve Curzon

Steve Curzon is the founder & director of Woodbridge-based brand marketing agency Curzon Marketing, providing full service marketing support to clients with a “brand first” approach to deliver client business growth. Steve is a long-time supporter of the Red Rose Chain team providing guidance and support on marketing, branding, sponsorship and communications for over 10 years. He is also a Trustee for a multi-academy schools trust working with three local high schools in Suffolk.

“For as long as I have known them Jo & David have combined immense creative talent & capability with genuine, hard-hitting community impact; an inspiring & intoxicating formula that had me right from the beginning. I love their energy & enthusiasm, & it’s plain to see how it rubs off on the diverse members of their community groups & the many talented actors that pass through their doors, supporting them along the way. Red Rose Chain is a local gem & a national trend-setter.”

Cheryl Sharland

Prior to her retirement in 2017 Cheryl worked at Suffolk County Council as the Strategic lead for Inclusion in Children’s Services. It was through her work that Cheryl first became involved with Red Rose Chain. Keen to raise awareness & challenge the view people held regarding some of the most vulnerable children in our community, Cheryl commissioned the company to create thought provoking plays that focussed on the difficulties faced by disabled children & young people with mental health problems. Cheryl was instrumental in transforming services for Disabled Children & Young People in Suffolk & created the Activities Unlimited short break programme through the governments Aiming High initiative.

“I was delighted to be asked to join Red Rose Chain’s Advisory Board as it is a real privilege to be able to work with, & support this amazing company who embrace inclusion in everything they do.”

Tony Felgate

A qualified accountant by trade, Director of two East Anglian commercial & specialist cleaning businesses. Tony is also a DJ for nonsuchdjs, running the Northern Soul fundraiser for Red Rose Chain. Aside from working with Red Rose Chain Tony is a supporter of the Campaign Against Living Miserably, a charity raising awareness of male suicide. Lastly, Tony works with the Jess Grant Celebration which raises funds to improve the well-being of children suffering from medical conditions through the provision of music therapy.

“I first became aware of Red Rose Chain at my first trip to Theatre in the Forest some 15 years ago (now an annual event of mine), I was blown away by the whole experience. I remember sitting next to Joanna at an awards event at Trinity Park & listening avidly as she passionately talked about Red Rose Chain & what it stood for. Since then I have supported them at every opportunity & I’m aware of the incredible work done for the disadvantaged within the community. It is an honour to be involved with such an amazing organisation!”

Rod Clayton

Rod is born and raised in Suffolk and has since reconnected with his roots through his work with Red Rose Chain. Rod co-leads the global issues group of Weber Shandwick, one of the world’s largest communications firms. Rod specialises advising companies in crisis management.

Aside from this, Nicky attends Advisory Board meetings on a regular basis & is a huge support to her daughter, Caitlin, who attends The Gold Chainers Youth Theatre.

“My daughter Caitlin started at Red Rose Chain’s Youth Theatre, The Gold Chainers, over 5 years ago. With their support & encouragement, she has grown in confidence & found her voice. It is a huge part of her life & a fantastic opportunity.”

Rory Burrow

Rory came to Suffolk to teach Biology and has been here ever since. Other than playing a key role in the Advisory Board, Rory also supports Red Rose Chain by sponsoring a seat in the theatre, this enables us to carry on our vital community work.

“I’ve always enjoyed theatre as a member of the audience & I’ve never given a thought to becoming part of a theatre company. That is until I found out about Red Rose Chain. I just love having a small part to play in this most inspirational, creative, visionary & hugely community-conscious professional company in Ipswich,”
